The Big One Oh!
Time to celebrate:

ChicagoPride.com is turning 10 this year and we want to celebrate! In a day where so many start and end weblogs, websites, and media outlets; ChicagoPride.com has been a source of community connection for a whole decade.

To me that spells relationships. We have partnered with so many of you over the years, in reaching out across the Midwest to make a difference. That has be so rewarding for us, but enjoying to watch as well.

Please come join us this Thursday, June 14th as we host a Reception from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. (Includes a hosted bar by 4Rebels Vodka and “live” red carpet coverage by Gay Chicago TV.) At 8:00 p.m. Special guest host Angi Taylor from the “Brotha Fred” morning show on 103.5 KISS FM joins me as the party continues with entertainment from the 103.5 KISS FM Beat Freaks; a performance by the cast of the laugh-out-loud musical Avenue Q, and Hydrate’s DJ Phil DaBeatz.

Guests will have an opportunity to win exciting prizes including free airfare for two from Orbitz.com to anywhere in the United States (including Hawaii and Alaska), a Kindle Fire and many other exciting gifts. This year’s tantalizing Bud Boyz competition finalists will make their first public appearance during the party.

I hope to see you there!

The Big Picture
Click!:
Chicago Lost and Found is a not-for-profit organization committed to art education and inspiring creativity throughout the city of Chicago. They re-purpose materials with no value or which would otherwise become landfill and transforms it into unusual art and functional furnishings.

Sales from the creations assist in generating funds to provide hands-on art education anywhere there is a need. Simply put, they take trash and turn it into treasure; all the while teaching folks the importance of art, creativity, and making a difference in their community.

Well, Chicago Lost and Found is hosting their Big Picture Soiree May 24th here in Chicago at The Victor; (311 N. Sangamon) raising needed support for education in the community through the visual arts.

This event promises to be an over the top soiree in who’s-who attendance. Top Chef Dale Levitski of Boystown’s newest dining establishment, Frog N Snail will be on hand presenting tasty eats; with Patrón providing the open bar for the evening.

There’s even spectacular entertainment provided by cabaret duo Amy Armstrong and Freddy Allen; with Chicago’s Cyon Flare adding to the fun.

Tickets are just $30 (Before May 18th) or $40 at the door.

Cheers to the arts!

Dining Out for Life
Eat This!:
This Thursday, EdgeAlliance hosts, the 19th Annual Dining Out for Life, an evening of good food, great friends, and the largest HIV/AIDS fundraiser in North America!

In fact, Dining Out for Life happens in 60 cities throughout the country. Last year, EdgeAlliance raised over $100,000 to continue its mission of providing housing with life services to men, women & children living with HIV/AIDS. This year they hope to raise $125,000!

You can help Make A Difference in the lives of those in need, just by dining out on Thursday, April 26th at these participating restaurants in Chicago-land; or these in San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, Palm Springs, Indianapolis, or Washington DC.

Everyone loves to go out and eat. There are restaurants for everyone’s budget. Grab a group of friends; make some reservations, and dine for a difference!

I’m enjoying a different twist in dining at one of my favorite spots in Chicago, HB Home Bistro for a sumptuous dinner; followed by a drive-by-dessert at Angelina’s, and then drinks at Taverna 750.

What better way to end such an evening in Chicago then seeing Sister Axxx2: Back in Bad Habit; an entertaining fundraiser for EdgeAlliance given by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, at Hydrate Nightclub. There’s a $10 suggested donation.

By the time the evening is over, we are sure to be full, and fulfilled; all whilst making an impact!

Cheers Damnit!

Windy City LIVE: Bullying
Windy City LIVE:
I was invited to be a part of the studio audience at Windy City LIVE, as hosts Val Warner and Ryan Chiaverini dedicated the entire hour to the very serious topic of bullying; personal stories were shared and experts and parents helped weigh in on the issue.

My new friend and Windy City LIVE Senior Producer Hank Mendheim shared his personal story about how he was bullied in grade school. “I think the bulling experience in small town america is probably much different in big cities.”

He even got his first piece of hate mail not too long ago; saying, ““I’m not going to let bother me. I’m not going to dwell or think about it. Twenty years ago I would have. Twenty years ago I would have been like, how could someone say that to me? How could someone do that?”

Obviously Hank is more comfortable in his skin these days. ”I think that since I am comfortable now, being a gay man and somewhat comfortable being an on air personality now, I just kind of roll with it.

“I can look at it now and laugh about it, because I know who I am and I know what I do.” I think Hank is living proof that it does get better.

Bullying prevention expert Karin Stortz spoke about the bullying epidemic being at the forefront of the media these days, thanks to movies like "Bully" and the "It Gets Better" movement. She also gave amazing responses for when you do get bullied and some great bullying resources.

This is a not-to-be-missed episode!
