Switching love like a channel on a remote?

Dear Princess Darby,

I’m afraid I made a big mistake, and now I have only painful regrets!

Recently I broke up with my long term partner, after I met someone and had an affair. I didn’t intend to do this, but it just happened. Now, only after just a few months, I regret the breakup and wish I could go back to him.

What can I do?

Regrets

Dear Regrets,

Your letter is short, but I hear your pain and feel your regret. No matter how long a relationship is, if it’s deep and true, it’s painful.

Life and love doesn’t have a remote that we can enter last, mute, or program favorites. But, it does have guide, rewind, and forward.

My only suggestions to you are to be honest and forthright. Ah, it sounds easy, doesn’t it? Don’t be too sure! Be honest and forthright to yourself, your present partner, and your previous partner.

You didn’t mention the particulars on your breakup or on your present situation. But, if you feel that your previous partner is your soul mate, start from there.

Have you discussed this with your current partner? If not, be honest and fair with yourself and him. Expect pain, hurt, questions, and anger. Be prepared to beg and duck! Beg for forgiveness, and duck if he throws anything at you!

If you decide to contact your former partner, be prepared to be rejected. He may feel betrayed and angry due to your disloyalty. Would you blame him? Again, be prepared to beg and duck!

If you truly feel regrets, than think deeply why and what you cold have done different. Take it from there. Good luck!
